iTunes 6.0.5: You can start by installing the latest version of iTunes itself. iTunes 6.0.5 fixes a security flaw and adds support for the forthcoming Nike+ range of products that turn your iPod Nano into a wireless pedometer. You can upload your running stats, including speed and calories burned, to the nikeplus.com website to track your improvement and compare your performance with runners around the world.
THE CRYSTAL METHOD TEAMS WITH NIKE ON ORIGINAL RUNNING SOUNDTRACK
Nike and The Crystal Method announced the release of Drive: Nike + Original Run, via the new Sport Music section of Apple’s iTunes Music Store. Drive is an original soundtrack composed by the artists to guide athletes through a 45-minute run from warm-up through cool down. Consumers can buy the 45-minute sport soundtrack at the iTunes Music Store for $9.99.
The new album is but one of the new downloads available in the Sport Music section of the iTunes Music Store. Sport Music has been designed as a virtual training partner and destination for athletes. Champion marathoner Alberto Salazar has contributed a downloadable coaching mix and more coaching mixes will be added to the Sport Music section of iTunes Music Store over time.
"It's a challenge because usually when we create music, we're focused on what we like and what our fans will like,” Crystal Method’s Scott Kirkland said.”We're not accustomed to thinking about a particular activity that has to go with the music. For this project, we thought about the movement and the energy that goes into exercising and running and the sort of goal-oriented activity that goes along with working out. When I've worked out...it's always about goals: 'I'm doing the uphill now, I've got four minutes until I get to the goal.' So we created songs that have a lot of dynamic motion to them, songs that go places."
"When we asked runners for examples of artists who create music that carries them through their run, TCM was consistently mentioned," Stefan Olander, Nike's Global Director of Digital Media and Content, said. "We were interested in working with someone who could create a continuous track with great rhythm that gives runners energy and motivation over, and Drive really delivered."
The first product developed though this partnership is the Nike+iPod Sport Kit, a wireless system that allows Nike+ footwear to talk with your iPod nano to connect you to the ultimate personal running and workout experience.
With the Nike+ Air Zoom Moire connected to the iPod nano through the Nike+iPod Sport Kit, information on time, distance, calories burned and pace is stored on iPod and displayed on the screen; real-time audible feedback also is provided through headphones. The kit includes an in-shoe sensor and a receiver that attaches to the iPod nano.
After a workout, runners connect the iPod nano to a Mac or PC and with the help of iTunes automatically sync and store workout data in a customized workout log on nikeplus.com. Nikeplus.com helps maximize the experience. You can log workout data, view and evaluate personal training goals, and review distance, time, pace and calories burned all through a colorful, dynamic and easy to use interface.

Real-time spoken feedback is also an option to guide runners past various milestones and on to their second wind.
The kit is able to sync with a PC to upload performance stats and history. Users will also be able to send their data to others for virtual races.
The $29 dollar kit is available for purchase today, though be prepared for a bit more sticker shock if you don't already own a Nano and a new pair of high-end Nike kicks, cause that stuff adds up quickly.
iTunes adds Nike sync, corrects security problem
Apple on Thursday released iTunes 6.0.5, an update to its popular music jukebox software that provides compatibility with new Nike+ products and offers a security fix. The new version is available for download through the Apple Web site or through the Software Update system preference.
New to iTunes 6.0.5, users can now synchronize their Nike + iPod workout data to nikeplus.com, where users can track progress, set training goals, challenge others and more.
In late May Apple and athletic wear maker Nike announced a collaboration on new products, including the Nike+iPod Sport Kit, a $29 wireless system that allows Nike+ footware to communicate with the iPod nano, relaying information on time, distance, calories burned and pace.
Apple also noted that iTunes 6.0.5 makes a security improvement that prevents an integer overflow vulnerability. This vulnerability lays in the Advanced Audio Codec (AAC) file parsing code in iTunes versions prior to 6.0.5.
